The main road along the Con river, on the riverbank is a stretch of motels, hotels and homestays with all kinds of multi-language signs. It shows you are entering a professional tourism area.

Traveling in Phong Nha, not just bird watching or night herping trips, you also have time to experience sitting on small traditional boat to explore caves, “paradise cave” is famous. many tourists visited. Near the cave entrance, surprisingly is where you can find the rare bird, the Sooty Babbler. One bird species has just been recorded that is distributed in Phong Nha.

Inside the caves sparkling with the colors of light, stalactites show all kinds of fancy figures. Many stalactites are still forming, and will probably change in shape after many thousands of years.

Bird-Watching routes in Phong Nha Ke Bang

There are 2 main bird-watching routes in Phong Nha:

  • Firstly, the main route going north-south along the National Park, called Truong Son Tay road. This is a road used by the North to transport weapons and food for war  in the South of Vietnam before 1975. Now it is a beautiful and ideal road for those who are passionate about traveling by motorbike and bicycle to travel through central Vietnam. On this trail, in addition to birds, you can observe Red-shanked Douc, Stump-tailed Macaque, Northern White-cheeked Gibbon, Hatinh langur and Assamese Macaque – a fairly rare species of monkey.
  • The second way, east – west, where you can find rare, endemic birds such as: Limestone warbler, Red-collared warbler, Austen’s brown hornbill.

Phong Nha is an ideal spot for the spotlighting and herping lover, many species of snakes and reptiles can be found, there are many small streams that are easy for snakes trekking. The Night herping at Botanic Gardens will be a memorable trip with us.
