Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve covers more than 3,000 hectares in Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh province.

Van Long NR is characterized by a large and jagged lagoon of limestone mountains. This topographical feature makes moving in Van Long very special: by rowing boat.

What is so special about Van Long?

On these limestone mountains, is home to Delacour’s langur primate. A langur with a white butt that looks like a person in shorts.

In addition, Van Long lagoon is also home to many popular water birds: Swamphen, Waterhen, Crakes, kingfishers,  4 Species of egret, Heron and Bittern. In breeding season, we can meet the Pheasant-tailed Jacana with long-tailed plumage.

Some migratory birds also return to Van Long lagoon in the spring such as Bonellii’s Eagle, Falcated Duck, Common Pochard, Greylag Goose …

Moreover, there is a species of bird specific to limestone mountains in the North of Vietnam, Limestone Wren-Babbler, which is one of the targets of every birder that will easily be found in Van Long NR.
