Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve – A Brand-new Location for Bird Watching Holidays
Ngoc Linh proposed nature reserve supports high levels of endemism in plants and animals. Furthermore, Ngoc Linh supports a population of the recently discovered, endemic mammal species, Annamite Muntjac Muntiacus truongsonensis.
The proposed nature reserve supports one bird species, Golden-winged Laughingthrush Garrulax ngoclinhensis, whose known global range is restricted to the central Annamites. Due to the presence of Golden-winged Laughingthrush and three other restricted-range bird species, Ngoc Linh proposed nature reserve qualifies for inclusion in the Kon Tum Plateau Endemic Bird Area (EBA). In addition, together with parts of the contiguous Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve, the site qualifies as an Important Bird Area.
This area is very new so security is not guaranteed but has a lot of things to see. One of the most desired is Golden-winged Laughingthrush although it is not common along the road. Bach Ma National Park
Appropriately, around 330 bird species have been recorded at Bach Ma National Park. Most notable is a recent record of the globally endangered Edwards’s Pheasant close to the park.
Extensive loss of forest at low elevations means that it is unlikely that the park itself supports a significant population of this species, and the chances of seeing this bird at there are virtually nil. However, plenty of other galliforms to attract birders, including Annam Partridge, Rufous-throated Partridge and the beli subspecies of Silver Pheasant. Bach Ma is most famous for its population of Crested Argus. People find it’s easier to hear than see. In addition, the abundant and diverse forest avifauna of Bach Ma provides visiting birders opportunities to observe many other birds. Such as Blyth’s Kingfisher, Brown Hornbill, Ratchet-tailed Treepie and Short-tailed Scimitar Babbler.

Located in Quang Binh Province, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is five hours driving north of Bach Ma National Park. Phong Nha is a well-known for its limestone karst formations and extensive cave systems and the national park has been designated a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.

The beauty of Cuc Phuong National Park is found in the enchanting limestone mountains and lush green forest that stretches across Northern Vietnam. As a matter of fact, these mountains form two parallel ranges, enclosing a valley where the climate is quite different from that of surrounding areas. Cuc Phuong is called a five-strata tropical forest, whose flora consists of nearly 2,000 species belonging to 240 families.
