With this Birding and Birds Photography tour schedule, we will experience 7 days in 2 largest national parks in southern Vietnam: Cat Tien National Park and Bidoup National Park. The most obvious difference of the two largest national parks in southern Vietnam is geography and climate.

What can we find in the birding tour at Cat Tien National Park and Bidoup Nuiba National Park, Dalat City?

Cat Tien National Park has a hot and humid climate with altitude below 300m above sea level. Then Bidoup Nuiba National Park has a cold climate with an average elevation of 1300-1500m above sea level.

As followed:

Day 1: Birding in Cat Tien National Park, Vietnam

Start at 6:00 from Hochiminh city, transport to Cat Tien by car , will arrive about 10 am, go to birding in the trails a few km, you can see some kind of bird Cat Tien: Drongos, leafbird, tailorbird, warbler, Grey-faced Tit-babbler, Pin-striped Tit-babbler, Sunbirds, Banded kingfisher, Square-taied Drongo-cuckoo, Thick-billed Green-pigeon, Orange-breasted trogon, Woodpeckers,…

In the afernoon, at the bird-hide for highlight targets in Cat Tien : Bar-bellied Pitta, Blue-rumped Pitta, Green-legged Partridge… in the bird hide tent. You will have so many nice pictures of them , let’s prepare your camera gear and battery. Moreever you can see some kinds of bulbul group, babbler group, warbler group, woodpecker group …

Accommodation:

The hotel inside or around of National park with the best room (Double room with air-condition, hot shower, free WIFI).

Meals: Breakfast on the way to Cat Tien, you will surprise about “Pho” (Vietnamese noodle with beef or chicken ) .

Lunch and dinner at the Tre vang restaurant inside of National park. That restaurant have menu open with Europian style or Asia style.

Day 2: Cat Tien National Park

We start at 5:30 to watch “ Yellow cheeked Gibbon” and hear “sing their song” , at 6:30 we back to the restaurant for breakfast and then go to another hide for : Germain’s peacock pheasant, Siamese fireback, Greater Coucal, Rails, …

The afternoon we go to another habitat for birding routes, grassland habibat to see some kind of woodpeckers, raptors, babblers …

After Dinner , we go to find some Owls : Asian barred Owlet, Brown hawk owl, Collared Scops Owl, Large-tailed nighjar.

Meals: B/L/D : at the restaurant same with the first day.

Day 3: Cat Tien National Park

We start early morning to bird-hide for some miss hot targets like Germain’s peacock pheasant, Siamese fireback or Orange-necked Partridge…

We continute bird watching at other habitat “deciduous dipterocarp forest”, and mixed bamboo with broadleaf evergreen forest to the end of this day,

Accommodation: At the same room

Meals: B/L/D : at the restaurant same with the first day.

Day 4: Cat Tien National park then move to Dalat city.

The last morning in Cat Tien will be gentle with visitors when using a pick-up car to go a long way to the grassland to watch: Green peafowl, Coucals , Green imperial pigeon ,… and some mammals : sambar deer, red muntjak …if lucky, you can see the Gaurs.

We will check out to Dalat city at 10:00am, lunch at 13:00pm at Datanla waterfall, a bird hotspot in Dalat city. All the afternoon we birding around Datanla for some nice birds : Vietnamese cutia, Chestnut-vented Nuthatch, Grey-cheeked Laughinhthrush, Bushchat, Flycatchers, especial Annam(Mrs Gould’s) sunbird and Langbian sunbird.

Meals: Breakfast at Cat tien, Lunch at Datanla and Dinner in Dalat city.

Day 5: Birding in Dalat city, Langbian Plateau, Vietnam

5:00am, we go to the Bidoup Nuiba National Park for birding : Visitors will follow trails under the canopy of pristine tropical jungle, cross rocky streams with crystal clear water, step over fallen trees lying on the ground covered with moss, in a fairy-tale setting of broadleaf forests on high mountains.

Lunch at the Da Nhim town. At noon time , easy Birding in center headquarter some nice birds: Vietnamese Greenfinch, Red-crossbill, Chestnut-vented Nuthatch,…

After dinner we can go do “night Da Lat center market “ and you will surprise about goods and people in here.

Day 6: Birding in Bidoup Nui Ba National Park, Vietnam

Start at 6:00 , After breakfast we Birding and birds photography all day in the bird-hide inside the National Park. Targets List : Collared laughingthrush, Black-hooded laughingthrush, Indochinese Green Magpie, Black-crowned Fulvetta, Grey-bellied Tesia, Large Niltava, White-browed Scimitar Babbler, Rufous-throated Partridge, Indochinese Wren babbler…

We will move to the center headquarter of Bidoup Nui Ba National Park at 17:00am and checkin at 18:30pm. (40km distance)

Accommodation : at the guess house in site Bidoup Nui Ba NP

Meals : B, D at the Dream hotel restaurant

Lunch at the restaurant near the bird-hide place.

Day 7: Bidoup Nui ba National Park and back to Hochiminh City

We continute birding in Bidoup Nui Ba national park in Cong troi Ranger Station, with some special birds : Vietnamese Cutia, Dalat Shrike Babbler, Orange-breasted Laughingthrush…

12:00 we back to lunch, after luch we go to the Dalat airport to get the flight back to Hochiminh city airport.
